And so begins my my time guiding the Petersham Horticultural Society. Watching the rain being buffeted by a keen wind my mind is turning to what the next year has in store for us Petersham gardeners. Personally the challenge to remember that from small seeds big plants grow and jungles are not normally seen in Surrey patios.
For our Horticultural Society the year will start with a cosy pub meet for exchange of seeds, marmalade, jam, chutney and perennials in the New Inn on Ham Common on the 24th January.
Our annual lecture will be at the end of February. This year we will be hearing about the work of the flower angles to convert unwanted flowers into arrangements of joy for those in nursing homes and hospices. The team will then give us a demonstration in floral art.
Hopefully, in kinder winter weather than last year (-2 and light snow!) our annual seed planting at the sea scouts’ field will be on the 16th March. We hope to inspire the next generation to love the joy of gardening.
The 113th Show will be on the 6th July 2019. Plan and tend those gardens with care, and there are cups to be won. With cakes, Punch and Judy, as well as side stalls there are many good reasons to pop this date in your diary.
All that is left for me to do is to thank Sara for her commitment and enthusiasm in guiding the PHS in the last years.
See you all in January
