The Date of the show has changed to the 1st July and will be held in the Russell School Petersham.
As you can imagine it’s been a bit of a busy spring so far for the Petersham Horticultural Society Committee. The owners of the “Petersham Village Hall” gave us notice that they could no longer accommodate the PHS neither for the show nor other events nor for storage of our belongings. The committee got to work hunting for a new location for the show and storage. We reached out to a diverse range of commercial and community organisations based in Petersham and Ham including local churches, golf clubs, schools and scouts. We have been delighted by the enthusiasm for show from the Petersham and Ham community – thank you for your messages of support.
I am pleased to report that there has been much keenness for PHS from lots of organisations within Petersham and Ham to host the show, provided storage and loan space for our meetings. As a Committee we felt that a move for this year’s show would give fresh start: Miss James, the Acting Head Mistress of the Russell School, has offered use of the the Russell school hall and playground on the 1st of July. Which we have gratefully accepted.
The Petersham Horticultural Society and the Summer Flower Show have been part of community life for at least the last 116yrs and will continue to do so. Upheaval often stimulates new growth – think of how digging in the garden encourages new shoots. A change of location to the heart of Petersham will increase the visibility and offer more space for more community members to get involved and feel a part.
If your community group, neighbours or friends wish to take over a stall at the show or have a new idea please contact me directly on 07944609031.
We need everyone to join in and help – we need donations for the bottle stall, jars of jam, cakes and or bit of your time time the on the 30th June and 1st July.
This email is also serving a call out for Raffle Prizes – can you, your business or one of friends or contacts provide us with a raffle prize. Our Raffle is always a good fundraiser and this year our costs have increased dramatically so a few lovely prizes would help.
As for the show, it will have the same tables ready for your wonderful exhibit and entries from 6pm on Friday 30th June and from 8am on July 1st. The school art will be collected and hung as normal. Mr Punch and Judy will set up in the playground, our local primary school’s choirs will sing for us and the maypole will be danced round. The coconut shy, games, tombola and raffle will be there to offer delights to both young and old. I have no doubt I will have the pleasure of welcoming you into the hall to see it filled with beautiful flowers, trays of perfect veg and delicious cakes. Tea will be drunk and cakes eaten as neighbours and friends sit, chat and watch the world go by…. Please enter, offer help and join in with your community.
