Report from our AGM 2013

The Petersham Horticultural Society welcomed Dr Pat Ealey MBE of The Holly Lodge Centre in Richmond Park who spoke at its 2013 AGM.  We heard about how the centre supports people of all ages and abilities to enjoy and learn from a variety of activities, many focusing on the Victorian era.  Julia who manages the Victorian Gardens also provided an overview of how the centre grows fruit and vegetable in the kitchen garden, cultivating old varieties of vegetables.  We wish them success in 2013 and look forward to inviting them to the Annual Flower Show.

The talk was followed by drinks, canapés and the PHS Annual General Meeting where we gave the President’s and Treasurer’s reports; elected our Officers and provided an overview of our forthcoming 107th Annual Summer Show.

107th Annual Summer Show – Saturday 6th July 2013 (Petersham Village Hall, Bute Avenue)

The highlight of the Petersham Horticultural Society is its annual summer show that has been part of this community since 1896!!  This is a unique local event and relies on the local community to participate in all manner of ways such as

  • – entering one of the classes that is open to all ages and includes classes in flowers, fruit and vegetables, cookery, arts and crafts;
  • – sponsoring as a local business – advertising in the schedule, contributing to the raffle
  • – supporting our local schools in classes, stalls and entertainment such as maypole dancing
  • – contributing towards the stalls especially in e.g. cakes, plants, bottles, bric a brac
  • – contributing in time

The Show schedule, detailing this year’s classes and an entry form will be on this website end April/early May. The competition classes will be similar to prior years so please start to plan your entry.  In the meantime last year’s schedule is on this website, for guidance.

For those of you who may enter the photgraphy class it may be worth noting the class themes that are …

Portrait – Candid, informal and formal photograph of an individual or group of people.
A Local View – An image taken in the Petersham or surrounding area.
Celebration – An image that expresses “celebration”, could be a wide shot,  or a tiny detail.

Please note that all exhibits must have been completed since the 2012 Show. An exhibitor may enter only one print of not more than 7” by 5” (unmounted) in each class.

Help?  Yes Please!

As we plan for the Show we need to determine available support.  We welcome your help in whatever capacity you can offer.  We especially need help on the day of the show with setting up stalls in the morning and on all our wonderful stalls and teas in the afternoon.  Just one hour of your time makes a huge difference.  If you can help, please email enquiries@petershamhorticulturalsociety.org.uk
