Petersham Open Gardens 2016

Petersham Open Gardens

Sunday 22nd May 2016

Sunday, May 22nd; a date for your diary. After the phenomenal success of the 2014 event with 90% of visitors likely to recommend the event to friends, we are proud to announce details of this year’s unmissable biennial Open Day. This special event in a beautiful corner of Richmond, South West London, is a must for all garden lovers, horticultural students and for anyone looking for a glorious day out. Here’s what some of our visitors had to say.

“It exceeded all our expectations and was absolutely wonderful to see the other side
of the beautiful houses we pass by every day.”

“It was so well organised and everyone was so friendly and helpful.”

“Absolutely stunning. A wonderful glimpse into this beautiful conservation area by the Thames”

Ten or more stunning private gardens in picturesque Petersham will be open to visitors in aid of the Petersham Environment Trust.  The Petersham Environment Trust is a charitable trust dedicated to help fund environmental causes in and around the village of Petersham including the preservation of woodlands, hedgerows, flora, fauna, birds and insects.

The variety of gardens on show, from the grand and ornate to the modern landscaped minimalist and the picture-box perfect country-garden, offers something for every garden lover.

All gardens are within a ten-minute walk from the Petersham Gate entrance to Richmond Park, opposite the Dysart Arms served by buses 65 and 371 from Richmond station.

Directions to the gardens will be displayed throughout the village, and an easy to follow map will be included in the programme.

Garden visiting is thirsty work so teas and delicious homemade cakes will be on sale from mid-day in both the Village Hall in Bute Avenue and from Petersham Lodge in River Lane. There will also be a BBQ outside the Village Hall, weather permitting.  For those wanting to make even more of their day there is Ham House and Marble Hill close by, as well as the restaurants and shops in Richmond, and the beautiful view from Richmond Hill down over Petersham Meadows, a little pocket of old rural England still grazed by cows.

Tickets are now on sale online at  £10 for entry to all gardens, free for children under 16. (It is also possible to buy tickets on the day from any of the participating gardens but advance booking is advised). Gardens will be open from 11am-5pm with last entry at 4.30.  We regret that there is extremely limited disability access.
